Humility…the greatest virtue!

Proverbs 29:23 A person’s pride will bring humiliation, but one who is lowly in spirit will obtain honor.

The truths of the Kingdom of Heaven are only perceived by those who are humble.

When we are humble we receive the grace of God and then we are given the secrets of the Kingdom, because we come to Jesus as a beggar. In order to revive our spirit we must be humble first, then we have learn to be submissive, and to top it all off, we have to think better of others than we do of ourselves.

How do we do that, with a repentant heart. Ask yourself why would God lift you up, when all you do is lift yourself up by goofy attitudes and actions? Could you be also as the religious Pharisees whom on the outward appearance look the part, even acted the part, but on the inside whence ravenous wolves? You may be able to fool some people but not everyone, you want some proof?… What about people with the gift of discernment? God has given them the ability to tell if are you all for show.

Let me say this in another way, lets quit trying to do things by other churches standards just because they appear to be right, doesn’t make the right. Look at the Pharisees, they appeared to look right also! If we truly want to have the heart of Jesus, we have to be different, we have to really humble ourselves and then we will see how much God Exalts us for it.

Matt. 18:1-4 At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” 2 He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. 3 And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.4 Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Here we see that Jesus confronts the tendency of humankind to associate authority with an exercise of dominance over others. Luke tells us that the disciples were arguing about who was the greatest. (Luke 9:46) They may have asked the question because Jesus chose only Peter, James and John to go up the mountain with him. Verse-2 Children knew that Jesus was their friend, so they had no fear of him. Verses-3-4 Children have to trust adults to provide for them.

The disciples needed to trust Jesus completely, just like we need to. Now at that time, children were not important. They may have had a family that loved them. But even the disciples thought that the children were a nuisance to Jesus. So they tried to send them away (Matthew 19:13-15).

Jesus told His disciples that they must change their attitude. They must not try to become important. They must be humble if they wanted to become great in God’s kingdom. Verse 5-People like to think that they are friends with someone important.

But we as Apostolics want to do what Jesus wants. So the person who loves Jesus will welcome a little child. Jesus said that it is the same as to welcome Jesus himself. I said all that to say this,:

The authority of God in our lives is for victorious fruitful living and for the overthrow of hellish powers, not for gaining control of others or for serving our own interests.

His call is to come to Him with child like humility and a servant like heart, this establishes the spirit and style by which we must approach God.

Matt. 19:14 Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

Matt. 5:7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

Only those who are broken in spirit, mournful, meek, and hungering after righteousness can enter into the kingdom of Heaven. While some people may appear righteous, there may be no true righteousness in them. The Lord said to these kind of people, “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye are like whited sepulchers (a tomb), which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness” Christ emphasized that it’s what’s inside a person that counts.

Now that doesn’t mean He wasn’t concerned about how we behave. Jesus’ emphasis was that those things inside us are what produce our behavior: righteousness on the inside is what produces right behavior.

A person can try to act correctly without being right internally but that is only legalism!

Col. 2:18 Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you. Such a person also goes into great detail about what they have seen; they are puffed up with idle notions by their unspiritual mind.
